A Newcastle spokesperson said, “We are deeply concerned about reports that a Newcastle supporter was seriously assaulted in Milan on Monday evening, and we are in contact with local authorities to understand the circumstances. Our thoughts are with the supporter and his family, and we hope for his full and speedy recovery.”

The fan was identified as Ed Makepeace, who was with his son at the time of the attack. A local police spokesperson said, “A group of seven or eight people attacked a Newcastle fan, a 58-year-old Englishman, at around midnight when he and his friend were in between Via Segretini and Via Gola. He suffered two knife wounds in the back and arm.”

“A police car intervened, and the person was taken to the Polyclinic Hospital, where his condition is not serious.”

Ed Makepeace’s daughter, Rachel Makepeace, told Sky Sports News, “My dad is stable and has had two knee replacements, so when he was being chased, he fell over and that’s when he was attacked. My brother is okay, but having witnessed what happened to our dad, he’s in shock. We haven’t slept all night.”

This incident has raised concerns about the safety of football fans, and the club is actively working with authorities to ensure the well-being of its supporters.
